for 815am Int'l flight out of HNL to SYD, I too suggest flying into HNL the night before. JHM (Kapalua) airport is nearby to Westin Maui (within minutes). If you catch early AM flight out of OGG (Kahului) before your 815am flight to SYD, should OGG-HNL flight be late, the inter-island air carrier may not be held responsible for your missed connection in HNL since you hold a separate inter-island ticket plus you may not have the required "legal" minimum connection time between a domestic and international flight in HNL which can be 2 hours.
