You've hit the nail on the head. If this happened on the BA164 it would be annoying but not the end of the world.
However in my experience the overnight flight to TLV is quite 'challenging' under normal operating conditions (not long enough to get a decent night's sleep, rude / noisy pax in CW, disproportionately large numbers of ultraorthodox people with their unique interpretation of 'love thy neighbour as thyself', crying babies non-stop). But to do it in a CE seat would be utterly horrible.
For BA to argue that this is not a downgrade would be disgraceful...
