Hilton seems to be very aggressive on their recent promos. Q4 was great and Q1 is not worse either, especially for those who stay at least 4 nights.
I left SPG for Hilton last year. I spent similar amount of money both at SPG and Hilton properties last year, as SPG member I couldn't even retain Gold, ending up with 20k points which actually was best to exchange to BA Executive Club by the end of last year due to 25% bonus from SPG + another 25% from BAEC, instead of spending just
1 night at SPG highest category property... At Hilton spending
same amount of money earned me Gold and thanks to Q4 promo I ended up with 170k points. That gives
4 nights at highest category hotel, which I used for Maldives.... festive season (worth 1100€ / night).
Isn't that beautiful? :-)
Not to mention that HH Gold gets you free internet + free breakfast and upgrades much more often than SPG gold as far as I am concerned, while SPG Gold gets you nothing basically except for the bonus points.
