In-n-Out is a burger chain...
To put it in East Coast terms, it's a different flavor of White Castle.

If you are looking for a plebeian Los Angeles food experience that's GOOD, don't do In-n-Out!

Instead go to Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles, or Cantor's Deli, or Pink's Hot Dogs....or track down some of the amazing LA food Truck scene serving everything from Korean Tacos to Crepes....and even great Mexican food.
