To be fair, I think that knitting needles were first 'unbanned' by TSA before other countries, and I think that the CPAP rules may have changed recently.

HOWEVER that doesn't mean that TSOs know about or carry through on these changes. About a year ago I saw a woman in tears thinking that she would have to remove her knitting from her needles. (Not only are they not banned, most knitters use circular needles these days as well as in 2001, usually the very lightweight German Addis or bamboo or plastic, and not the long steel straight pins of decades ago)
