Who are you to say? Who said NYC is would be his getaway? Then there is the fact that a high airfare combined with high hotel rates could be a deal breaker for those on a tight budget, especially a family of four.
I'm sorry, but IMHO, if a family of four can not afford the extra $80 for their r/t airfare, then they can not afford the vacation at all.
They would be lucky to get out of an IHOP for dinner for $80 and there is no point in putting yourself in a financial hole, or having to worry about every cent, for a vacation.
