Oh for goodness sake, only somewhat OTT IMHO. Although reading it has brought a giggle on NY's day for me. If we are talking about a pax with special med needs, then maybe there really is 'no other option'.
There are always options. Buy a smaller camera. Buy a robust set of luggage for checking gear in. Fly on different airlines that meet the personal requirement for carry-on. Crikey, what happened before the aircraft was invented...travel by sea. No drama with carry-on there, fill 'yer boots.
How does CNN and the many thousands of others with 'expensive camera' equipment get by? I presume that they check-in their expensive gear.
This almost could descend into the 'right to travel' (or bear arms) debate, which I'll avoid.
