Increasingly odd inventory control issues...
This is a follow up to an earlier post
AA flt 488 SEA/DFW Dec 30.
AA shows 13 unassigned seats. Upgrade never clears at 48, Expertflyer shows only 2 availability in F/A/P inventory.
Thinking of taking several clients on this flt for a meeting and quick turnaround. Platinum desk confirms that they can only sell 2 seats in F.
I mention the 13 unassigned seats and they tell me the "Unassigned seats are not a measure of ..." ......... There are not thirteen pax up front without seats.
So when I get to the gate yesterday the upgrade clears, along with 4 or 5 other platinums...And then the gate agent starts looking for military personnel to move up front (which of course is a class act).
It's clear that first is wide open, so I ask gate agent why they wouldnt even be selling F seats, not to mention clearing upgrades at 48, and she has no idea but does say "we've been hearing that alot lately"
Any ideas? My only guess is that they are holding back F inventory thinking they are more likely to sell last minute full Y rather than full F. Could it be a holiday season thing?
Either way, if upgrades dont clear at 48hrs on a wide open cabin, ...?
Lately it seems like the only time my upgrades clear is on washouts like DFW/RDU at 6pm on a saturday afternoon .
