Thanks for your concern, but you obviously don't have the AmEX platinum, since if you did, you would know that AmEx platinum only allows access to the SC's when flying DL. I don't always fly DL, but many SC's are acessible when flying other airlines. Also, you only get one guest into the club when flying DL. What if I had more? Or, as you said, they can be used as gifts. More "tricks in the bag" when needed.
