Do Air China and UA use the same terminal? I've got a PVG-PEK (CA) flt connecting to PEK-ORD (UA). I've got plenty of time for the connection, but wanted to get an idea of the layout/process (I'm guessing I would do immigration in PEK). Thanks.
Can't remember if there is any domestic->intl transfer setup, but anyway I don't think it would save much time. I would just exit normally through baggage claim, go upstairs and through the checkin hall, train to 3E, immigration, security etc. If plenty of time, I would also be tempted to tag bags only to PEK, pick them up and drop off at UA again. That's probably not necessary though.

Maybe check the China forum for people's most recent experiences, but basically for citizens of quite a number of countries a <24h visa-free transit is allowed. To avoid problems you should continue to a 3rd country, not back to the same one. As dewman9800 mentioned, you might have to go through a different lane at immigration when you enter. I do it often when between visas... You'll probably get a full-page rubber stamp titled "Stay Permit" I check
