A couple of questions for UA experts...

Booking a ticket for a European colleague from DUS to ORD

1- He's prefers UA E+. Does LH have E+ if I book a LH code share? He can fly out of AMS or DUS no matter; just prefers E+
2- If I book on UA metal, he's told me before that there are certain fare classes you can book into such that a paid E+ upgrade will be available. Book the wrong fare class and E+ doesn't come up as an option when checking in. Is that true? If so, how do I book it such that I pick the right economy ticket? On the UA website it doesn't give me many options other than economy, business, and first.
