Lufthansa medical emergency refund on non-refundable?
Months ago my husband and I bought two one-way tickets from the U.S. to Valencia, Spain on Lufthansa through Webjet for 1/1/11 costing over $1,200. Two weeks ago I got diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome, a-fib and got a pacemaker put in last week and am looking at a cardiac ablation. Naturally we had to cancel these reservations. Webjet is saying no refund (except taxes) or we can rebook in the next year with $250 fee on each ticket. I wrote, with cardiology letter and Webjet rejection, to Lufthansa customer relations and sent an online email as well requesting a refund for a ticket we have no interest in rebooking. Any other successful experience or suggestions on what I might try? (We now have incurred all kinds of unexpected medical expenses, of course.) Thanks! (Please email me directly as I feel it may be important to do as much as I can before 1/1/11.)
