New Year's and New Year's Eve Traditions When Travelling - What Are Yours?

Like many here, I am frequently away from home on the 1st of the year.

There are many interesting local traditions that one can partake in, ranging from attending the New Year's Day Concert at the Musikverein in Vienna (I did that two years ago) to watching fireworks at the Eifel Tower (I think I did that four years ago).

There's also a European tradition (for Silvester or New Year's Eve) which most English speakers are unfamiliar with, even though it is a skit performed entirely in English, namely watching Dinner for One.

Dinner for One is the story of Miss Sophie, an upper-class English woman who is celebrating her 90. birthday. She always invites her four friends but unfortunately they have predeceased her, so her butler, James, stands in for them at dinner with hilarious results.

Having grown up partially in Austria and (later on for University) in Munich, watching Dinner for One is not really foreign to me. I watch it religiously on the 31st every year (sometimes twice). I also looked into its history and just wrote a short article on it - and I have embedded a good copy (i.e. with intro music and good quality video) of the skit in the online version of the article.
