I appreciate this POV and generally subscribe to it myself but around the holidays sometimes checked luggage is unavoidable.

I had checked two bags on a flight from CDG last week, that after 3 hours waiting at the gate was cancelled- back through immigration to arrivals .

I will admit I was pleasantly surprised when the bags actually came out where they were supposed to within the hour.
