Though the plat amenities are uncertain this looks like a very good option for staying a very nice hotel, good location on the strip, at a very reasonable price... and you get MR POINTS! There is no other hotel, on the strip, where you can get points. If you get some perks that's great too but getting points is better than not getting points! Compare the prices of comparable hotels and I think you will find the cosmo to be very competitive.
Or I could stay at another Marriott property like the Ren. for less, get the perks, and pocket the $$$ difference. You are right, if I am traveling for fun, the Cosmo is a decent option, I don't need anyone to make that arg to me. However I bring 10-20 rooms when I come here most of the time, and those perks and consistency in responses are things I look for when making work travel plans. Per my initial post, I will wait to see everything get ironed out before making any reservations.
