If you are taking a taxi back to the US border, ask the driver to drop you off at "La Garita Fiscal". It's easier for him and you. Just follow the curving street north which joins up with the sidewalk to the US border as mentioned above. If you aren't sure, ask the driver but it is fairly self-evident once you get there.
Man, if I'd only known this the first time I went to TJ my life would have been so much easier. Nowadays, I know people who live right near there, so I'm hip to the trick. All your advice is valuable and excellent and part of what makes FT so awesome.
I've actually never even talked to Mexican customs, but they seem to like to talk to my siblings. I guess I look harmless...well, that and Mayan.
