Further detail from the OP, the SWU's on AA are very tempting as that will allow me to take the wife on business trips with me -- the current issue is that if I'm going to Paris for work, and she wants to come, it's too expensive to pay to put her in business or first with me, so what would end up happening is I would buy an economy ticket for her. But then she'll take my business seat and I get the economy! So we haven't done that much, but likely places we would do that to include London, Paris and Tokyo.

What has been swaying me is BA's promotion of 40,000 miles for each transatlantic business fare by 3/31. I could hit this three or four times by the expiration and get myself a pile of miles on BA. But I'd be giving up the points on AA, hence the need to defect and go BA gold.
