Sorry you're without luggage, although I'm guessing that has just as much to do with AF cancellations and reroutes from Florence to Pisa than it does with AA.
As for the others, I doubt many people here know the answers about crew legality, why it was re-routed, or why you didn't stay in Milan. Personally, it would surprise me that AA would do that if it were in fact illegal.
And as for "throwing passengers into CDG," I think that's unfair. AA doesn't have any codeshares with AF, so, for probably the vast majority of passengers, CDG was the final destination. I'm sure those people were thrilled to actually be in CDG and not in Milan. Frustrating for you, to be sure, but I have to imagine you are a very unique situation with a separate ticket on AF. You certainly would have been a lot happier if they'd "thrown" you into Milan, but probably everyone else wouldn't have been if they were trying to get to Paris.
All in all, this is certainly frustrating, but you have to put things in perspective. At least you got to Italy, which is an awful lot more than can be said for the tens of thousands of people who got stuck due to either the London or New York blizzards the last 2 weeks.
