This won't help the OP, but another option -- if your destination isn't "once in a lifetime" and you plan to go back -- is to try to bring a small amount of foreign cash home with you. I usually try to have 100 euros in my wallet when departing Europe for the US.

And of course it generally isn't hard to find an ATM on arrival at many foreign airports.
