I recently burned 225K BA miles with 2-4-1 cert from DFW through LHR to NBO (Nairobi) in business, returning JNB (Johannesburg) through LHR back to DFW in first. Taxes were just shy of $2000 for the pair of tickets. We wanted to try the 747 upper deck, so decided to do business on the outbound and first on the return. Since we want to do a Rwandan gorilla trek, Tanzania safari and visit Mauritius and the Seychelles, we thought it was a GREAT use of the 2-4-1 cert. But if animals and beaches aren't your thing, it would probably be a terrible use of the cert. And while the taxes might equal nearly the amount we would pay to travel in coach, we will travel in relative comfort and try out the BA first product for the first time. Frankly, I think it is a steal.
