I would not call that a typical Platinum. Folks know (and want to preserve) that once an upgrade is made - it is not downgraded. There are aircraft swaps where a downgrade may be necessary due to less seats - but short of that - once upgraded, regardless of status - you should keep that upgrade.

Platinums changing flights - loose their upgrade - that is just the way it is.
