I think you're just facing the numbers. In reality it doesn't work out like this, but if you figure legacies running at 80-90% LF, one day backlog of cancellations should theoretically take 4+ days to clear. The current 1.5-2 days could take a week. There's offsets from people making other arrangements, canceling trips, aircraft repositioning, but even status can't make seats appear.
