I should perhaps add, that in our case, we had 2 bookings, one 2-4-1 LHR - JNB, CPT - LHR and on a different PNR JNB - VFA, as that was a paid for flight.
In our case, BA wouldn't have had to put us up for the night and change our ticket to the next day (though they probably would have, even so).
