I agree 100% with Cheetah_SA. Regarding the quoted bit:

You can however decide to stay in an airport hotel in JNB (unless it is the expensive IC that is no fun) which guarantees you get to Victoria Falls a day later or you can aim for a same day transfer and in the worst case you get what you now plan for, albeit at the expense of BA...

You should indeed never plan it so that you onwards arrangements fall apart (i.e. the start of a group safari or trip on the blue train).
