Not uncommon with most budget/low-cost airlines tbh. Try the same with Ryanair or easyJet in Europe or Jetstar in Australia etc - you'll be told where to go, and it won't be on board.

This is how these airlines operate - they stick to their timeframes in order to ensure turnaround times etc are met. If you're not there in time, then tough luck is the attitude.
