Basically you've got Virgin Atlantic, which is 51% Virgin Group (Branson) and 49% Singapore Airlines; plus Virgin Blue Holdings, in which the Virgin Group is majority shareholder and from which we have Virgin Blue and V Australia (along with Pacific Blue, and Polynesian Blue which is 49% owned by Samoan Govt).
John Borghetti is believed to be keen to clean this up with a unified Virgin brand, and as Traveloguy says, this will make for interesting times ahead!
Actually, I think you will find that Virgin Group / Sir Richard Branson actually owns very little of Virgin Blue Holdings (DJ/VA), and owns far less than the 51% required to be a majority shareholder. From memory it is closer to around 25%.
