got screwed out of $50 for VDB voucher that I requested on delta.com..

So I was supposed to fly out on Christmas from JFK-DFW via Atlanta, but that flight was canceled and they put me on a direct flight in the evening, which turned out to be overbooked. When I was checking in online, there was a page that allowed you to sign up as a volunteer to be bumped, and you would put in an offer for voucher compensation. I put in $400. At the airport, I got called up and the agent gives me a $350 voucher, saying that that is the bid that I had put in and she would only give me the amount that I had bid. I tell her that's incorrect, talk to the supervisor and then call delta's helpline, asking about what happened to the extra $50 that should have been on my voucher--Delta rep says that since I booked through Hotwire and the flight was changed Hotwire took $50 off the top as a penalty and I would have to take it up with them. Does this story make sense and how should I go about getting that $50? I feel a bit cheated since $400 was definitely my bid and also since the flight they put me on for Monday has been canceled and rerouted (on probably another overbooked flight). Thoughts?
