Doesn't Chaffetz control the purse-strings now?
As I understand it, TSA has already indicated that they need more staffing to use the AITs with the frequency that TSA wants (
gate-checks are mostly gone, and some AITs are roped-off for lack of staffing?), and that's going to require a lot more people, which means more money. The AIT funding was previously asked for and denied, then stimulus funding was used to purchase them. Yet there's no long-term staffing solution yet set up (
stimulus funds used for capital expenses, not operating expenses).
All I want is no naked pictures, no radiation, and no touching without probable cause or reasonable suspicion (
failed passive detection, such as WTMD/x-ray, etc). With random pat-downs, that right there fails that want. Right now, just showing up at an airport is quickly starting to appear to be probably cause for a physical administrative search.
Caffetz can (
if so empowered) spend and allocate money any way he wants (
staying within budget), yet lets keep this effort on the liberties, and not the dollars (
yet not forgetting about the dollars!).
