What does it mean when Trans-Pacific flight reverse direction halfway across?

I'm tracking a Trans-Pacific flight that my famlily member is currently on. The flight is already halfway across the Pacific when I looked at on FlightAware. However, I just noticed that the plane symbol on the map has reversed its heading by 180 degrees... (i.e. heading in reverse) It's currently somewhere in northern Pacific and headed towards Alaska/Canada?

The airline website showed no delay or any other info and the airline's reservation line has kept me on hold for a while(still on hold as I'm typing this)

Can anyone give me some guesses on what might be going on?
