I think the poster's flight was ex-EWR the metal should have been already in EWR by then...I agree with you they don't want planes out of position but it does work to their advantage to have the plane out there to RON to help recover the operation.
As I understand it, the equipment was a 752 due in from DUB on CO 23, which was also cx'd @ 9pm Ireland time which would be 4am EST. The flight was scrubbed at 4:54am EST, So I guess they couldn't find another 752 to run the route. Of course I have to rebook on a flight that gets scrubbed by lack of equipment, not EWR weather on the day of a Nor'Easter.
