If I cancel a non-refundable with a 100% cancellation penalty booking before the hotel debits the amount on my credit card, Can I cancel it myself without having any charges? Or should I expect that they would debit the full amount?

Some properties debit the amount after checking in even though I have made he booking months earlier.

I've read somewhere here on FT that the hotel gives some kinda of a flexibility to guest, that's why I'm asking this.
