Booking a RTW from South Africa is interesting but looking at the OW site this seems to be about £4.6k for 4 continents and I assume you mean book offline via AA ?

Any other suggestions still welcome. I don't want to splash this amount of cash and find out I've done it wrong
Offline with AA indeed. The ZAR is doing rather well so indeed £4.6k. Too bad. It would give you the holiday of a lifetime though. You can do 4 continents and 16 stops.

MFU is always tricky. Besides, you want to do a RTW itinerary and you can only upgrade the BA flights. So it won't be upgradeable for the AUS/US/Pacific part. Will be very, very complex to put together.

You could consider doing a reward to AUS and then a OW Circle Pacific.
