for me taxes all always a big lottery. I am sure this is not the case and there are some objective reasons why taxes on some flights are higher than on others but the differences are incomprehensible to me. I had an award ticket Asia-Europe with USD 14 taxes. I had other (paid) tickets Asia Europe this year with taxes more than ten times that amount.
