A bit OT: Help with planning an Oz holiday please

Hi all,

With all this snow and cold my thoughts are turning to booking a long trip next winter to Australia and NZ with some stopovers. Ideally taking the flights with BA, or at least Oneworld. I would welcome any advice from those on this forum on best way to book, any ideas on cheaper fares etc.

Some details:
  • There are three of us (2 adults and a child). At the moment we are all BA Silver though likely to be down to 2 by next winter.
  • Would like to go during late Nov/early Dec through to late Dec /early Jan.
  • We have about 250k miles in a HHA but no BA AMEX (euro members) so I can't get a partner award (but with 3 people not two I'm not sure it is much cheaper?). Also looks awfully difficult to try and buy WTP and do a MFU which I'd happily do and was my first thought.
  • Want to travel from London with a stopover on the way, ideally Hong Kong.
  • Would like to visit Perth, Sydney and maybe Cairns in Oz and then onto NZ.
  • On the way back would like to come back via the Pacific and stop off in Fiji or Hawaii (well, its sort of on the way) and then via San Francisco to London.
  • Ideally would like to travel in Club but the OW Explorer at nearly £6k each is probably a bit over budget.

So, am I crazy to do this on Oneworld, should I ignore my desire for status and go for the cheapest flights in business? As you can probably tell this is likely to be the "trip of a lifetime" so I want to try and get it right.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Paul
