I checked out yesterday with a very different experience. I was on an FHR rate (that was the same as the prepurchase rate). Was given both its benefits and my Gold benefits as well and an upgrade to a suite without asking (although not Ocatilla). Hotel seemed fully staffed. Attentive service throughout. Their onsite historian took us on a tour of the property for about an hour and a half.
Having read the above review I checked my room's cleanliness. No problems at all. Mini-bar snacks were not expired. The furniture are dated replicas and a bit 'beat up'. That and the fact the coffeemaker was not high quality would be my only complaints.
Don't stay here if you're into modern boutique hotels, but if you're intrigued by history (and get a good rate), you should consider it.
