Email is sent to inform customers that they can choose their benefits now; many customers (especially first time qualifiers or those with upgraded status) will want to do this now so they get their kit soon for various reasons (whether it be wanting the membership card to show their status, card to access lounges etc).
I qualified for P on Oct. 17 and E on Dec. 8 and have not received any email to choose benefits.
