I would be upset too, but you must realize that last-minute equipment changes happen at pretty much every airline. Of course you would expect SQ to be better, but if they had no other aircraft available, operating the flight with an old aircraft is certainly better than canceling the flight.
This wasn't a last minute change, but rather SQ increasing capacity at peak time.
