As background: I've developed a pretty good relationship with my local Chase branch and they've never given me any flak about $3k-$5k in deposits at a time... I've been at this for about 3 months now with about $45k in total deposits.
So I went into the branch and sit down with the manager and she said that my personal checking account was being closed because of "business activity" which basically equates to me depositing coins and paying off the credit cards for them. I was pretty frustrated that I would have to change all of my billpay info, but I let her know that I was willing to open a business checking account. And then she said that I was blocked from doing that too!
I had no choice but to take a cashiers check for the balance on the account because it was going to be closed at the end of the day. Has anyone ever experienced something like this before? I've been unhappy since the day that Chase took over Wamu, but this is next level stuff. I understand if they don't like the way I conduct my deposits/withdrawals but I didn't even get a warning from them.
I'm now looking for another bank that'll be more amenable to my banking activities. I already have a joint account at BofA, but if anyone has any recommendations either on this thread or PM, I'd appreciate it.
It was reported just a couple weeks ago and we all concluded that it was due to the revolving door of the deposit of coins / paying off credit card the poster did on a Chase personal checking account recently opened for CO debit card for 25K bonus.
It is a big no no to do the revolving door type of transaction. You would probably be OK if you let your balance grow before draining it to pay credit card bills immediately shortly after your coin deposits. The revolving door act is a sure thing to kill a newly opened account, but I am a bit surprised Chase has taken this action towards yours which seemed to be an existing account from the WAMU days.
