You are going to have to rent if you want voice service in Japan. In an old thread, someone posted a link to a data only device that a non-resident could buy. Government regs require something more than a tourist visa to get a prepaid with voice.

jccrcorp.com does Blackberry SIM rentals, but it is like $90 a week for unlimited data. You may do better elsewhere.
