Though would it work out cheaper to separately book a KUL>BKK flight, or is it too much hassle in case of delays etc?
I think I'll monitor the situation and hope AirAsia announce a new sale for February in the next couple weeks.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with flight prices for the UK, as I live in the USA. But 240 pounds sounds very cheap if that includes all the taxes/fees. That's $740 round trip in US dollars. US pricing is $900-$1200 depending where you depart from.
The only hassle I see here is the transit visa (do they do that?), retrieving and rechecking bags, etc. But that's the price you pay for saving a few quid. Also you could stay in Kuala Lumpur for a day or two to check it out.
I have no idea what the flight times are, but I would assume it won't be a convenient wait between flights. You may have to even spend the night in KUL for a morning flight to Thailand. Again I have no idea what the flight times are. When I checked into doing a USA->Singapore->Thailand trip in the future, I would have to sleep over in Singapore to catch the morning flight out.
I'm no flight expert, but to me it sounds like a cheap and fun adventure.
