That's a real issue in F.
One idea is order a coke, ginger ale, or some "mixer" and the drink on the rocks or straight up. Then dump their liquor into the mixer and pour your own. Just don't empty it or you might get another.
Fortunately in Y, where I've been most of the time, FAs typically just hand the minis to you.
