It's paid by the employer, and they booked it on AA and AY. To make it to NRT by noon and given the last minute notice it turns into the scenic route to Asia. Not the first time I've done Asia this way for work before.

One of my coworkers is trying to negotiate with our travel office to send us back on JL F as the meeting is 12-1500, and JL has a flight leaving at 1715 as opposed to 1900.

If only they let me hire a substitute. Something about this involving a project that hasn't even been publicly released leads me to believe the conglomerate would frown upon this. Our AA flight leaves in 55 minutes, so you'd have to teleport here.
