In NYS, you have to assign a car to the EZ Pass as the application requires the make, model and vehicle class type. You can use the transponder on any car within that class but first a car with its info must be assigned to the account when you fill out an app.

NJ Ezpass requires the license plate be registered with tag and if you move the tag to diff car who does not have Ezpass associated with the license plate, they mail you the ticket with a fine.. They fine gets waived if you pay the ticket, but last I heard its only for the first offence..
