The called my travel insurance company to claim for the pre-booked accomodation and they are refusing to cover me. They say cancellations due to weather are only covered if you have been delayed for more than 24 hours. Since the cancellation was announced before the scheduled departure time then it's not their problem!
That'll teach me to book non-refundable hotels...
that is one thing i am so happy I did - used my AAA (auto club) and when I use that with priority club hotels (holiday inn, intercontinental, etc) I get the advanced purchase rate as a best flexible (cancel up to 6pm local hotel time day of checkin)
