Out of curiosity, what happens in these situations, ie no passport and / or money? If happens at the airport and one needed to get downtown (or worse if one had to get to the capital city if out at a provincial location) to the embassy etc. How would one take a taxi, bus or train with no money?

Does the airline assist with some sort of loan....for basics such as food, drink, transportation etc to begin to get things sorted out?

Must be a nightmare...particularly over a weekend or in a more third-world country / when there are language difficulties or where the state is more authoritarian and having no passport could be considered very serious?
