This 'environmental' rationale actually makes the whole thing sound even more bogus to me...

If they want to give customers the option to give the $1 because it somehow eases their environmental conscience, that's fine. But to arbitrarily charge a buck in the name of the environment is just a cash grab in my opinion.

How about the free newspaper? A newspaper, in fact, can actually be recycled...
