Thanks for all your replies, lots of great options (I'm sure it will be helpful to others in our situation).

We ended up booking the HI Silom on the F&F rate (at around THB 1700++), considering our status at IHG (booking a Premier room gets you a Club upgrade with free Internet) and the fact that this will help towards our "Crack the Case" goal.
