It depends on your gate ... The tram covers two thirds of the A concourse -- so if your gate is in the first 1/6 either direction from the tunnel, it's faster to take the moving side walks.

You can easily get from any point in the south terminal to any other gate in about 10 minutes and the weather for DTW for this Tues looks pretty good for this time of the year.
