Yep - and the Koh Samui Airport was a major issue for Thai Airways as the Samui route is a real cash cow for Bangkok Airways.

I saw someone mention that the Thai Authorities were opening up competition when Thai Airways started 2 flights a day on the route.

The reality was that Thai Airways realised how much money was being made on the route and were considering building their own airport on Koh Samui in competition. When the government & Bangkok Airways realised they were being serious they allowed them 2 daily flights

So next time Virgin whinges about slots at Heathrow, they should just threaten to build their own airport!
