Suit them

But seriously: TIMATIC, that is used by most airlines worldwide to check entry requirements states:

- All visitors must hold:
- onward or return tickets, except when in transit to either
mainland China (People's Rep.) or Macao (SAR China);

- except if holding a British passport endorsed British
National (Overseas) ;

- all documents required for next destination and sufficient
funds to cover their stay in Hong Kong.

You can access TIMATIC via asiana.com site: http://us.flyasiana.com/Global/US/en...?fid=INFO12340

For me it is obvious - if you hold a Chinese visa (or you are from visa exempt countries, I believe for now these are Singapore, Japan, Brunei) and also hold a ticket to fly back from China, then they should let you travel to HK.

Unfortunately too heavy baggage is your fault...
